The President of the Republic has signed decree n° 2018/1991 of March 2, 2018 re-organizing the Government with Mr. Louis Paul MOTAZE appointed Minister of Finance, replacing Mr. Alamine OUSMANE MEY who has been appointed Minister of Economy, Planning and Regional Development.

As Minister of Finance, His Excellency Mr. Alamine OUSMANE MEY was the Chair of the Committee in charge of  monitoring and implementation of the Extractive Industries Transparency Initiative (EITI Committee) since December 09, 2011. The highlight of this period was undoubtedly the accession to the status of compliant country by Cameroon on October 17, 2013.

His Excellency Mr. Louis Paul MOTAZE has a lot of experience in senior management. Previously Minister of Economy, Planning and Regional Development, he knows EITI through the Technical Committee in charge of Monitoring Economic Programs (TCM); this attached structure of this department is represented in the Technical Secretariat of the EITI Committee.

The new Chairman of the EITI Committee takes up his functions at a time when  Cameroon’s second Validation is about to wind up and when new projects under the 2016 EITI Standard, which dwell more on the impact of the Initiative, are at the heart of the current three year work plan  (2017 – 2019).

UN NOUVEAU PRÉSIDENT A LA TETE DU COMITÉ ITIE

A la faveur du décret du Président de la République n°2018/191 du 02 mars 2018 portant réaménagement du Gouvernement, S.E.M. Louis Paul MOTAZE a été nommé Ministre des Finances. Il remplace à ce poste S.E.M. Alamine OUSMANE MEY nommé Ministre de l’Economie, de la Planification et de l’Aménagement du Territoire.

En qualité de Ministre des Finances, S.E.M. Alamine OUSMANE MEY était à la tête du Comité de suivi et de mise en œuvre des principes de l’Initiative pour la Transparence dans les Industries Extractives (Comité ITIE) depuis le 09 décembre 2011.  Le fait marquant de cette période a, sans nul doute, été l’obtention par le Cameroun du statut de pays conforme le 17 octobre 2013.

S.E.M. Louis Paul MOTAZE est un homme pétri d’expérience dans la haute administration. Précédemment Ministre de l’Economie, de la Planification et de l’Aménagement du Territoire, il connaît l’ITIE notamment à travers le Comité Technique de Suivi des Programmes Economiques (CTS); cette structure rattachée de ce département ministériel est représenté au sein du Secrétariat Technique du Comité ITIE.

Le nouveau Président du Comité ITIE arrive au moment où la seconde Validation du Cameroun tire à sa fin et que les chantiers nouveaux que nécessite l’arrimage à la Norme ITIE 2016 sont au cœur du plan de travail de la période triennale 2017-2019, pour plus d’impact de l’Initiative.
