PROMOTE 2017 Exhibition: The EITI showcased & spotlighted
From the 11th to the 19th of February 2017, the 6th International Exhibition of Small and Medium Size Enterprises (SME) and Partnership (PROMOTE) held in Yaoundé and became the biggest business event in Central Africa. The EITI Committee was one of the exhibitors.
More than eighteen thousand (18,000) visitors visited the exhibition. As a novelty this year, the Inter-Progress Foundation (FIP), the main organizer of this event, decided to group the exhibitors by theme. Eighteen (18) sectors of activity were thus recorded and one thousand three hundred (1300) stands were open. The EITI Committee was one of the exhibitors.
When the exhibition kick started on 11 February 2017, many citizens rushed to the EITI exhibition Stand, curious to know more about the Initiative and the recently published EITI 2014 Conciliation report. The members of the Committee and the Technical Secretariat mobilized for these eight (8) days communication activity, seized this opportunity to explain, answer questions, and distribute different communication gadgets to visitors. This momentum was sustained for the entire period of the Exhibition. Many participants attended the conference of 16 February 2017, which the EITI Committee organized under the distinguished patronage of the Minister of Finance, President of the EITI Committee, on the theme: “EITI: Implementation Status and Results Obtained to date”. The theme was broken down into several sub themes, the key sub-theme of which was: “EITI: what impact to date”?
Organized a few months to the second validation of Cameroon, this sharing of experiences has helped to increase people's awareness on the progress made by the country in improving transparency and governance in the extractive sector.
